The hotel we are staying at is the Camino Real Oaxaca. Built in 1576, the Santa Catalina convent was home to Dominican nuns for almost 300 years. In the mid-1800s the State took over the property and used the building as a prison, government offices, and later as a school. In the 1970s a comprehensive restoration project was undertaken with the goal of returning the building to its original splendor. The restoration was beautifully done. The hotel is a beautiful blend of old architecture and new. The property takes up a whole city block and is only a few blocks from the main Zòcalo (city center). The staff here have been very nice and accommodating - it's the perfect place to spend our honeymoon!
This is a wall of old clay jugs that were found at the site during the new reconstruction of the convent.
This is our view while attempting our daily updates and going through our daily photos.
This is the mezzanine outside of our room.....very relaxing....
